Overview
DadGains is a local-first fitness app. Your workouts, personal records, photos, and settings live on your device — we do not have accounts, servers, or any place to store your data ourselves.
The one exception is the AI-powered features (AI Coach, AI Workout Generator, Program Builder, and Weekly Check-in). When you use those, a limited slice of your training information is sent to a third-party AI provider, Groq, so it can generate a response. Everything else stays on your device.
This policy explains exactly what gets sent, when, and to whom.
Data Stored on Your Device
All data you enter into DadGains is stored exclusively on your device using local storage. This includes:
- Workout logs, templates, and exercise history
- Personal records and progression data
- Body weight entries and progress photos
- Check-in history
- Profile info (fitness level, equipment, injuries) and avatar image
- App settings (units, theme, notification preferences)
- AI Coach chat history and saved AI-generated programs
This data:
- Never leaves your device except as described in the "AI Features" section below
- Is not transmitted to The Yard Apps
- Is not backed up to any cloud service we operate
- Is controlled entirely by you
If you delete the app, all locally stored data is removed in accordance with your operating system's standard uninstall behavior. You can also use Settings → Delete All Data to wipe everything inside the app at any time.
AI Features and Data Sent to Third Parties
DadGains uses Groq (groq.com) to power its AI features: the AI Coach chat, AI Workout Generator, multi-week Program Builder, and Weekly Check-in recap. Groq hosts the large language model that generates responses.
When data is sent to Groq
Data is sent only when you actively use an AI feature — for example, when you send a message to the AI Coach, ask the app to generate a workout, or open the weekly recap. No AI requests are made in the background.
What is sent to Groq
Depending on the feature, the request may include:
- Your message or prompt (e.g. the text you typed to the Coach, or the workout you asked for)
- Training context: your fitness level, available equipment, unit preference (lbs or kg)
- Recent workouts: up to the last 5 completed workouts — template name, date, duration, and exercise names
- Lift progression: up to 8 recent tracked lifts — exercise name, best weight, and the last three weights you used
- Safety context (AI Workout Generator only): a filtered list of exercises deemed safe given injuries you've logged
What is not sent to Groq
- Your name, email, phone number, or any contact info (we don't collect these in the first place)
- Progress photos or your avatar image
- Full workout history beyond the recent summary above
- Check-in notes or body measurements not directly relevant to the request
- Device identifiers, location, advertising IDs, or analytics of any kind
What Groq does with the data
Per Groq's published policies (groq.com/privacy-policy), API requests are not used to train their models. Groq may retain request data briefly (typically up to 30 days) for abuse prevention and operational purposes, after which it is deleted. Groq processes the request, returns a response to your device, and the response is stored locally in your chat history or workout template.
How to opt out of AI data transmission
You can use DadGains without any AI features — the Quick Start workout generator, custom workout builder, exercise library, progress tracking, and all logging features work entirely on-device. Simply don't use the AI Coach, AI Workout Generator, Program Builder, or Weekly Check-in, and no data will be sent to Groq.
No Analytics, No Advertising, No Tracking
DadGains does not include analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising networks, or third-party tracking of any kind. We do not know when you open the app, which features you use, or anything about your device.
No User Accounts
DadGains does not require or offer user accounts. You do not need to register, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the app.
Health Data Integration (Optional)
If you choose to connect DadGains to Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android), the app can read step counts and weight entries to display them inside the app, and write completed workouts so they appear alongside your other activity. This data stays on your device — it is not transmitted to Groq, The Yard Apps, or any other third party. You can disconnect at any time via your device's health settings.
Children's Privacy
DadGains is designed for adult use and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The AI features send limited training data to Groq as described above; if you believe a child has used the app, you can wipe all data via Settings → Delete All Data.
Data Security
Because your primary data store is your own device, its security is governed by your device's built-in protections (encryption, screen lock, biometric unlock). Data sent to Groq for AI features is transmitted over HTTPS. We recommend you use your device's security features to protect your fitness data.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — particularly if we add, remove, or change third-party data recipients, or introduce new data collection — we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the app.
